Nasty Gal Does It Again

I think we can all agree on the fact that Nasty Gal has really been killing it lately. Everyday, I find myself adding more and more to my shopping cart, it's just never-ending. From tweed jackets to dip dyed denim skirts to floral jeans to oversized flannels, I simply love & need it all. Nasty Gal, you never fail to make me broke! Well I'm off to checkout before I find any other last minute treasures to add to my cart...

Sporty Chic

Wearing: Sweater - H&M, Shorts - JPG Jeans, Sunnies - Vintage, Sneakers - Reebok, Bag - Chanel

This sporty ensemble displays everything I love in one outfit - comfort and chicness. Fell in love with the stitching of this sweater when I first laid eyes on it, it's really the perfect chunky knit for fall. These sneakers were such a great find at Beacon's Closet for $15...  I always throw them on whenever I want to add an edge to an outfit. Not to mention, I kinda dig the whole tomboy thing since I never really went through that phase. I mean come on, a pair of sneakers beats a pair of stilettos any day right? I also love the idea of mixing an elegant, timeless piece like a Chanel bag with these laid back kicks, as it really makes a statement.

Deep Thought

So the past few days, I've been thinking all about blogging and how it has become such a big part of the fashion industry. Before I even started blogging, I was reading millions of blogs everyday, in order to see some versatility and hear different voices. I am definitely picky when it comes to bloggers, as the blogging industry has become so mainstream lately, and I believe you really have to stand out as an individual. Although I can appreciate nice photography and beautiful clothes, I usually never return to a blog if I feel the blogger is only about getting "recognized" in the industry. I have no problem whatsoever with bloggers making money through their blogs, but as long as they blog for the right reasons, and not just to get acknowledged. I look for a lot of passion and depth when it comes to blogs, as it's not all about the fame aspect and being "known." If all of that eventually comes along, that's great, but I think it's so important to recognize a blogger for their authenticity and their individuality.

Many bloggers feel that if nobody important in the fashion industry sees our outfits, then our outfits never existed. I don't think like this, as I blog for myself and for girls just like me who are looking for a daily dose of style inspiration. If they happen to get republished on a well-known website, I'm thrilled, but I don't blog just to get noticed. I started my blog because I love fashion and I wanted to share what I love with the world.

Being a good blogger isn't all about looking so dolled up/decked all the time. Rachel Bilson is my style icon because in my eyes, she's the queen of casual chicness. Less is always more - that's the motto I follow. At the end of the day, I'm just a girl, who appreciates fashion, but I'm so happy to leave the house in a pair of flats rather than 5 inch heels. Yes, I love to switch it around and show a wide range of different looks/styles, but what I wear and what I write on my blog is all coming from someplace real. Nothing is perfect and no one is, so no blog will ever be exact perfection. Your hair won't always look like it was just done and you may not have that perfect tan, because we are all real girls, and there's nothing wrong with that. Being exactly who you are is enough.

It's in the Jeans

Wearing: Jeans - JBrand, T-Shirt - Truly Madly Deeply, Sweatshirt - Left on Houston, Sneakers - Converse, Sunnies - Urban Outfitters, Necklace - Vintage

These tie-dye jeans will always be one of my faves, as they really put an outfit together. Threw them on with an oversized white T-Shirt, as I'm a big fan of the whole laid back LA look. Oh, and I'm loving these new sunnies from Urban Outfitters... this cool mint hue has really been killing it lately. Waiting for it to cool down already, I miss bundling in sweaters and scarves! The sun was so strong today, was forced to take my sweatshirt off... sorry I keep trying to convince myself that the temperature will drop everyday, but it fails to do so.

Indian Summer

Wearing: Jacket - Forever 21, Skirt - Nasty Gal, Sunnies - H&M, Shoes - Dolce Vita

What do you get when you mix and match a mineral washed denim jacket, suede taupe booties, and a beautiful aztec print skirt? Stunning! This outfit is super casual yet very hip. The colors in this skirt are eye-catching, combining pale green with pale blue - both cool, summery colors. I love how it brings out my California tan and reminding me how much I enjoy the Indian Summer!

Funkytown

Wearing: Dress - Rue 21, Vest - H&M, Shoes - No name, Sunnies - H&M, Bag - Urban Outfitters, Necklace - No name

Between the dress, the vest, and the necklace... I thought this outfit was rather funky. This little Rue 21 number is great to throw on when I don't know what else to wear/am having a major case of style block). Between the bright colors & the floral pattern - this dress is so fun and flirty. Oh, and it's super comfortable, which is always a bonus. The outfit needed to be spruced up a bit, and that's where my denim vest came in handy (as it always does). I know this necklace looks super heavy, but it's actually so light. I decided to change it up by incorporating this bold, chunky piece into my outfit, even though I'm usually into a more dainty necklace. Gotta switch it up sometimes though, right? Xx

Thrifty Threads

So I thought I'd do a post on some of my favorite thrift/vintage stores in LA. If you didn't know: I am a huge thrifter, as you can usually find me searching through racks on racks at one of these stores. I live walking distance from Wasteland, Crossroads, and Buffalo Exchange, which is great, but also dangerous - very dangerous (for a shopaholic like me that is). My love affair with Wasteland started the first time I came to LA, which was about 2 years ago. Whenever I'd come visit after that, it'd be the first place I went to and the last place I went to before going back home to New York. Now that I live here, I definitely don't go as often, or else I'd actually be broke. I'm always popping in every now and then though, whether it's browsing, shopping, or selling my clothes to them. Iguana is definitely more of a vintage store, than a thrift store. I love wandering around in there for hours and getting lost in all of the different decades - whether it's the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, etc - I love it all. So if you wished you lived in the Roaring 20's... go on in there and purchase some retro threads - promise you'll find some treasures in there. What are some of your favorite thrift/vintage stores?

Still Summer

I'm Wearing: Denim Jacket - Theory, Shirt - Kitson, Skirt - American Apparel, Sunnies - Target, Shoes - Old Navy, Earrings - H&M, Turquoise Necklace - Emerald Forest, Other Necklace - And That
Sara's Wearing: Shirt - H&M, Headband - Anthropologie, Bag - Marc Jacobs, Shoes - Aldo, Studded Bracelet - BCBG, Necklace - DIY, Watch - Michael Kors, Sunnies & Pants - Store on Melrose, Evil Eye Bracelet - Fairfax Flea Market

Wasn't aware that October was still considered a summer month in Los Angeles. I literally feel like I'm on a long vacation, wearing skirts & sleeveless shirts to school instead of jackets & scarves. I think we can all agree that I match perfectly today... I mean come on, look at the turquoise and yellow pieces I paired together - now it really feels like summer. I've been so into skirts lately, as I always used to prefer shorts. I just think that skirts are so much more comfortable and have way more chic points than shorts. Every time I see a cute skirt in a store, I end up buying it... note to self - need to have some more resistance because my closet cannot handle any more clothing. Sara has taken some pictures of me before at school, as we're in the same journalism class. She's actually a former fashion/personal style blogger, so she has lots of experience. Not only is she great with a camera, but she is a true fashionista herself, as you can see above.

Prairie Girl

Wearing: Kimono - Staring at Stars, Dress - Rick Owens, Hat - LF, Shoes - Necessary Clothing, Sunnies - H&M, Necklace - Urban

About a year ago, my best friend Nikki, and I were browsing through Urban Outfitters (holding back from buying anything as we are both the biggest shopaholics) and she must have seen me eying this adorable kimono. A few months later she bought it for me! I'm in love with the colorful design, as it screams hippie, boho, and prairie girl all in one. This Rick Owens dress is super tight, yet super sexy. It's a great go-to piece to have in the closet, as it's such a neutral color that works with every season.

Shades of Blue

Wearing: Shirt- Forever 21, Shorts - Levi's, Sweater - Goddess, Sunnies - Urban Outfitters, Boots - No name, Necklace - Vintage

Was so lazy this morning, needed a comfortable yet grungy outfit to throw on and be somewhat satisfied with. A little bit of tie-dye always seems to brighten up my day. Decided to whip out these old boots even though it's still 90 degrees in October. I miss scarves and leggings and LAYERING! It's okay, it's supposed to cool off very soon, well hopefully. Throwing on these round shades always does the job for me, as they take me back to the swinging 70's (a decade I wish I could have lived in).

Style Copycat

For those of you who don't know know about Style Copycat, definitely add it to your bookmarks. This is a fashion blog that documents street style & bloggers style. It covers all of the current trends and never fails to give you a daily dose of inspiration and a chance to "copy" an outfit. Above, I posted some pics of the pencil skirt, the full mini, floral pants, boyfriend jeans mixed with coats, and some sporty chic ensembles. I probably check this blog everyday, as it always encourages me to try out more fashion fads and be more open to mixing different looks together. You all clearly know what writer's block is right? Well that same lack of inspiration can happen with style as well. So if you're ever feeling clueless about what to throw on in the morning, browse through this blog for about five seconds and all of your problems will be solved, no but really.

New outfit posts coming later this week... stay tuned! Xx

Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

Thought I'd change it up a bit and discuss a few things that I love & don't love...

I love: when I can have a real conversation with someone (heart to heart) and really connect and get to know them, when a stranger smiles at me (in a friendly way, not a creepy way), when I get the whole row to myself on the plane, when I get a great bargain on something I love, when it rains on Sundays and I can sleep in and watch a great movie, when I make people laugh hysterically, when I find a really great slice of pizza in LA (the pizza out here comes no where close to being as yummy as authentic NY pizza), when I see an old couple holding hands, when one of my favorite songs comes on as I get in the car, when every task on my daily to-do list is crossed off, and when I feel certain that everything will work out for the best (positive attitude is key).

I don't love: when people are fake/flakey, when I'm at a pet store and see a bunch of dogs without homes (wish I could take them all home with me), when people I love are upset, when things are out of place (OCD neat freak at your service), when people are overly sarcastic, when a vacation comes to an end, when someone starts a story and then says "never mind", when my favorite shirt shrinks in the wash, when people don't make eye contact with me, when I get a paper cut, when I walk into a thrift store with a bag of clothing to sell and walk out with the same bag of clothing (no luck), when I finish a box of french fries from McDonalds (fast food junkie right here), when I'm stuck in horrible LA traffic with no snacks, and when people have no respect for themselves.

Those are just some things in life that I happen to love & not love so much, I could go on forever, but I think you get the gist of it. I'd love to know - What are some things that you love and don't love?

Wicked

Wearing: Sweater - Brandy Melville, Skirt - Brandy Melville, Hat - Headlines, Sunnies - Urban Outfitters, Clutch - Marc Jacobs, Shoes - H&M

Black on black plus some pops of green - reminds me of the amazing Broadway show, "Wicked." Just picked up this cozy sweater and little skirt from Brandy Melville, such great staple pieces that I know I'll wear to death. Was on the hunt for a bright colored pump and decided to go with the green as I think it's such a seasonal, gorgeous hue that should be taken advantage of more. Oh yea, wanted to add another little touch to this outfit - my LA hat. Love the sporty chic look... then again, who doesn't?
