A Recap of 2012

So here are my favorite outfit posts from 2012 (sorry for all the pics) but hey, it is a recap of the entire year!! Not every outfit post is shown here, but the ones that I thought were worth showing are. Tell me, what are some of your favorites!

So the other day, I went through my entire blog, all 240 posts, as I reflected on where I started and where I've ended up. I've grown and learned so much in the past year, and my blog has been such an incredible outlet for me, as I get to combine two passions of mine - fashion & writing.

I think it's so important for us bloggers to take a step outside of ourselves, take a breather, and give ourselves a nice pat on the back for all of the hard work, love, and dedication we put into our blogs everyday. I think it's so imperative that we all reward ourselves in some way or another, whether it's doing what we do best (shopping till we drop) or even treating ourselves to a spa day (sounds unreal right now) - we should all reward ourselves every now & then for what we do, because that is what keeps us going right? A happy & healthy new year to all of you! Xx, A.

So Long, 2012

Where has 2012 gone? It feels like I just started blogging, yet it was almost 12 whole months ago. Wow. Now I know what my parents meant when they said that as you get older, times goes faster. This is why you have to cherish every moment, because life is truly a gift and should not be taken for granted. So much has happened this year. I started my own blog that has been one of the most rewarding opportunities of my life. It's really become my personal online diary, not just about style, but about life in general. I love having an outlet that I can go to whenever I want, and just type away and let my fingers do the talking. From the first few months of blogging about the hottest fashion trends to eventually transforming my blog into my own personal style, this year has really been a journey to self-discovery. I moved from New York (my hometown) to sunny, beautiful Los Angeles. Talk about a big move. I am so appreciative of my New York roots but I really needed a change, and LA was definitely the right move. Plus, I am a bi-coastal girl now, which is really the best of both worlds, so I have no complaints.

I am so excited to start classes at FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) in a few weeks and major in Visual Communications. I look forward to expanding my horizons, learning more about the fashion industry, and becoming more and more inspired everyday by wonderful people, places, and things. I am so excited for 2013 to arrive, as 13 is my lucky number, so I know it's going to be an amazing year and I hope it will be for all of you as well. Thank you to all of my readers and followers for all of your comments & support over the last year, my blog wouldn't be what it has become without all of you!!

I will be posting a recap of 2012 on Monday (the last day of the year) with all of my favorite outfit posts from this year, so stay tuned for that!! I hope everyone is having a great holiday vacation and a happy & healthy new year!! Xx

Dressed Down Denim

Wearing: Shirt - Gap, Tights - H&M, Shoes - No name, Glasses - Urban Outfitters, Beanie - Laundry By Shelli Segal

I think we can all agree that the denim button-down has definitely become a major staple in all of our extensive closets. I love the vibe that it gives off, so casual yet so chic (duh). Whenever I feel like going out in sweats, I just substitute them for a denim button-down and a pair of leggings (or tights) - always seals the deal. It can be worn in a very polished, ladylike way or it can totally be roughed up for the more hipster attraction. This one is actually my dad's (may try stealing it) - it's been in his closet for years, really digging the worn out, jaded feel of it. I have a few of my own but this one is a 10/10 for sure. I love raiding his closet for some menswear pieces that I can work with - you should all try that, never know what treasures you'll find!

Very Pinteresting

I cannot get enough of Pinterest. No, but really. It's almost as addicting as Instagram, now that's a big deal. Every time I open up Pinterest, I get so inspired, whether it's from pictures of street style, hair, beauty, or food - my mind is always running wild with new ideas after seeing new "pins." If you're not following me on Pinterest, be sure to start now! I pin new pics everyday (for the most part, unless I skip a day - no more than one though), from my own personal style, to other blogger's style, to my Instagram pics, to the world's sexiest men. Promise that I'll keep things very pinteresting for you all. Oh yeah, Merry Christmas everyone! Enjoy the day with your family & friends, xx!

Baby, It's Cold Outside

Wearing: Sweater - Alice & Olivia, Blouse - Vintage, Jeans - Liberation, Sunnies - H&M, Flats - Shoe Republic LA, Earrings - H&M

Just because it's cold outside, doesn't mean that we need to be fully decked out in blacks and grays. Come on people, I love my neutrals but we need some blinding brights and some fun patterns to keep the holiday spirit going (it really is the most wonderful time of the year). Tis' the season to embrace crazy colors, take some summer pieces from the back of our closets, and incorporate them into our winter gear. Take this silk yellow blouse for example - I could pair it with a sweater over it (like I did here) or I could even pair it with a dark colored blazer and totally make it work. Basically, don't abandon your favorite summer pieces just because we're not on the same page as the weather. It's fashion people, our choices and opportunities are endless - literally.

A Bundle of Sunshine

Wearing: Jeans - Forever 21, T-Shirt - Truly Madly Deeply, Button-Down - Vintage, Scarf - No name, Shoes - Converse, Sunnies - Ray-Ban

Nothing like a pop of yellow to brighten up your day. This new scarf is my little bundle of sunshine and it's definitely coming in handy while I'm in cold, gloomy New York. Oh and I love that it brings out my subtle ombré highlights - score! I've been living, and I mean living, in this army green button-down that I picked up at the Fairfax flea market back in LA. It's so cozy and it's also right on trend as military green parka jackets have been taking over this season. I love the urban, jaded look of it and the fact that it was only $10. Oh how I love all of my flea market purchases...

Chic N Rock x Nikki Rich

Style: Elizabeth Description: Wool blend, contrast floral insert, woven jacket. By Nikki Rich.

I love this jacket as it's so incredibly chic and has such a cool design on it with all of the lines. Woven jackets, like this one, are so wearable right now, especially when you give them some edgy twists. I would pair this number with some hot leather pants, a sheer blouse, a statement necklace, and pointy heels. This jacket is so bold and so fierce looking, I think every fashionista would want to get their paws on it. I know I would! I would wear it during the day over a baggy T-Shirt as I'm running errands, I'd wear it to a holiday party over a festive little dress, and I'd also wear it over a maxi dress for a night out on the town.

So for all of your fellow bloggers out there, be sure to participate in the Nikki Rich Style Club Contest for Fashion Bloggers!! If you win, you get a $300 shopping spree - unreal. I included two links above, one leading to the Nikki Rich website and one leading to the contest rules. Good luck everyone!! Xx

Fun With Florals

Wearing: Shirt - Vintage, Jeans - Milky Way, Boots - Steve Madden, Belt - Vintage, Sunnies - Ray-Ban, Earrings - H&M

What girl doesn't love to have fun with florals every now and then? Fun, flirty, and feminine - pretty much sums up the whole floral trend. I picked up this top at a thrift store for just $3. Yes, I just said $3. I love the old-fashioned look of it yet I also love the fact that the colors are so bright and almost blinding. I think the little black headband tied the whole outfit together, as I really brought out my inner Blair Waldorf, while repping the bow headbands that she rocks in almost every episode - agreed my fellow Gossip Girl watchers?

Subtle Stripes

Wearing: Shirt - Banana Republic, Beanie - Urban Outfitters, Bag - Zara, Shoes - Boutique 9, Jeans - Life In Progress

It's been kind of gloomy in LA lately, time to bust out the long sleeve shirts and cover up for the first time all season. I love the laid-back look I went with here, cozy yet cute. Needed a pop of color, so I chose to throw on my red cross-body bag from Zara. And I also decided to dab some hot red lipstick on my lips to brighten up the look as well. Stripes will never ever go out of style - their just one of those universal prints that we all know & love. I must have a dozen striped shirts but this is def one of my favorites as I'm really digging the subtle stripe print on this one. Oh and it's incredibly soft - bonus! I've been beanie crazed lately as you can see, I bought this one at Urban Outfitters and I will absolutely be going back to purchase it in a few more colors.

Burning Red

Wearing: Blazer - Forever 21, Shirt - Marc by Marc Jacobs, Pants - LnA, Bag - Shoemint, Shoes - Boutique 9, Beanie - ASOS, Sunnies - Urban Outfitters

Just bought this red blazer from Forever 21 as I had been on the hunt for one for awhile. I love the color red as it's so bold and chic. This is such a great staple, I know I will live in it all year round. 'Tis the season to wear some beanies and I must say I am loving my new striped beanie - how cute? Finally hit 60 degrees in LA today... feels weird to actually feel a breeze, wow have I become spoiled by living out here. Off to New York on sunday, I am very excited to hit up Manhattan as I truly love being there this time of year (holiday season, duh). Ice skating at Bryant Park, seeing the big Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, and reuniting with friends & family to celebrate yet another amazing year and toast to the future, hello 2013! City of Angels, you will be missed but I'll be back in 2 weeks! Xx

Rainy Days

Here's a list of 10 things to do on a rainy day in LA...

1) Watch a great movie (either go to the movie theatre or get cozy and watch one in bed) - I prefer the second.
2) Clean out your closet (one of my fave things to do, it feels so good to get rid of old pieces and replace them with new pieces).
3) Go to Amoeba Music and browse through records on records all day long (the best).
4) BAKE! I prefer brownies.
5) Go to a museum and get some culture (I prefer the Getty or the LA County Museum of Art).
6) If it's not raining too hard, you could stroll down Sunset Blvd with your umbrella and do some shopping/eating/people watching.
7) Read a book or if you're not such a bookworm, browse through some magazines, cut out your fave things & make a collage!
8) Dance in the rain... why not?
9) Kiss in the rain - such a romantic cliché!
10) Snuggle with someone you love... I prefer my doggy :)

As Bob Marley says, "Some people feel the rain, others just get wet." For me personally, I always feel the rain. I embrace it... not every day has to be sunny to be a good day. We all need some rain in our lives. I'd love to know, what are some things you love to do on a rainy day? Always up for new ideas...

Touches of Gold

Wearing: Vest - Vintage, Shirt - Emma & Sam, Jeans - Superfine, Flats - Shoe Republic LA, Necklace - Forever 21

This is such a typical me outfit. No, but really. A great pair of straight leg jeans, a pair of statement flats (that do all of the talking, of course), and a simple shirt that abides by my #1 motto of the 3 C's (casual, comfortable, and chic). I decided to add this new vest of mine to the outfit as I wanted to funk up the look with a bit of innovative menswear inspiration. Bought some new costume jewelry at Forever 21, this necklace being my favorite piece - don't you just love it?

Wow, cannot believe I didn't start the post off with this amazing news - I met Rachel Bilson yesterday! I saw her walking on the street and I just had to stop her and say hi! As you all know, she is my #1 style icon and I admire her so much. It was a dream come true and she was just as sweet and beautiful in person. Onto these spiked babies... I've been living in these flats, I think I need to go buy them in black & silver since these were just the best purchase. They are such a pleasure to walk in, and did I mention they were $20? Yep. Alright enough of me rambling... off to eat some din - tacos, my fave! Happy 12.12.12 everyone... hope it's a lucky day!

The Shift

For those of you who have not watched this film, I strongly encourage you to watch it today. It is so incredibly inspirational, I have never watched something so touching and so close to my heart before. Dr. Wayne Dyer is an American self-help author and motivational speaker. In this dramatic feature film, we are given a few scenarios in which people are searching for a higher purpose in life. In the film, Wayne states, "It's this whole journey of moving from your ego and ego consciousness. The ego is the part of us that believes that who we are is what we accumulate, what we accomplish, and what other people think of us, our reputation. This is what we grow up on, this is what we've learned." He talks about how it's important to come from an inner place within ourselves - a place of kindness, peace, love and joy. And when you come from those places, then you will attract more of what you've always thought was missing from your life.

Wayne Dyer wants people to realize that any challenge you may be faced with, any difficulty, any struggle that you are going through can be resolved. When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. It's important to take a step outside of yourself and think about what you really want out of life. Yes, most people want fame and money, but those things aren't what makes a person internally happy. Success is not measured by those things, it's measured by the goals we achieve and the obstacles we overcome. This film really struck a chord within me, I was in tears by the end of it and just felt so re-energized, like I wanted to go out and change the world.

In my opinion, this movie should be a required film for everyone. I truly believe that if people took just two hours out of their busy days, put their phones away, and just focused and watched and listened - they may too want to experience "a shift" in their lives. Everyone wants to find meaning and purpose in this crazy world we live in. We don't want to feel ordinary, we want to feel extraordinary and be the best human beings we can possibly be. We want to shine light on everyone, we want to open our hearts, and we want to lend our hands to those in need. We don't want to look back one day and think we lived our lives wrong. We want to be eternally fulfilled and we want to be in a place of peace and serenity and love. We attract what we are. If you are a positive person, you will only attract positive people and positive energy. This movie really puts it all in perspective, in such a real way. A way that we can all relate to, if we let ourselves get to that level. Dr. Wayne Dyer encourages us to always embrace change, to find our true paths, to keep moving forward, and to awaken the inner spirit in all of us. You're only one thought away from changing your life.
